This Unit of Work is surrounding the Novel “The Boy at the Back of the Class” suitable for Year 4/5/6. It consists of one A4 PDF plan per Chapter including: ’Demonstration Reading’ Quotes - Example of what to say when unpicking a sentence when modelling the ‘reading brain’ and the quote page number for reference (as used by Jane Considine). VIPERS Style Questions: - 6 assorted questions to explore the chapter and ensure understanding. (As used by Literacy Shed) Activities: - A range of activities and links to resources that enhance and build upon the themes and events within the chapter. e.g. PHSE Circle Time, Creating a Fact File on Syria, PE Marching Formations, Maths Investigations surrounding money. A description of how to use these in class is also provided. Useful links and website used in the creation of this resource have been added to the end of the file. Such a useful resource for those that need a bit of help with self-regulation. These can be printed out as posters, cut out as prompt cards or kept in individual’s trays/packs. To get the best out of these, I would talk through each one with a child when they are in a calm state of mind. Go through the cards together and ensure they understand any words they don’t understand. Includes picture prompts to aid understanding. It is good to check in and rehearse these strategies on a frequent basis as it is better to prevent a meltdown than cure one. Happy breathing! @Tenminuteteach
